Canton Police Department's Citizens Police Academy is a six-week program intended for individuals who are interested in acquiring insight and knowledge on how the police department works to serve the Canton community. Note: The 2019 session will consist of eight weeks, and include two sessions of a cross-over Fire academy pilot program.
Mission of the Academy
Individuals attending the academy will be educated on policies and operational procedures of the department through presentations, demonstrations and hands-on activities. They will increase their personal knowledge on law enforcement's role in the criminal justice system, as well as their understanding of the training and education required for police officers to effectively handle the daily challenges of police work. The overall intent of the academy is to develop positive relationships between citizens and police officers, enhancing cooperation, understanding and general good will.
The next session is scheduled to be held April 11 - May 30, 2019. Applications will be accepted online or in person at the Police Department front desk during the month of February, 2019.

Below are a list of application requirements:
Age 21 or over
No felony convictions and no misdemeanor convictions within the past 3 years
Applicants are subject to a background check
Notification of Acceptance
Class size is limited. All applicants will be notified by mail before March 31, 2019, as to whether they have been accepted or not.
